Located in the heart of central Seoul, Yongsan was a mecca for the electronics industry in the 1990s, but has declined along with the industrial paradigm shift since the 2000s. It has since earned a reputation for being a chronically underdeveloped area. The Seoul city government requested a plan to develop the Yongsan Depot site and the Yongsan Electronics Market site in 2021, and last year announced big changes along with the Yongsan International Business District development plan.
